1. To successfully make a chart in Excel, data and labels need to be entered into the spreadsheet before beginning any other step. The left most column should have a text-label for each row. The very top row should have labels for each column - to identify what each row represents.
2. Next, highlight from the top-left cell to the bottom right cell (which contains data). If you don't need ALL of your data, you can also individually select each COLUMN needed by holding down the CTRL key and highlighting individual columns needed one-at-a-time.
3. Then select the menus INSERT > CHART and the CHART WIZARD will appear.
4. Select the chart style you want. In the sample, a COLUMN chart is shown. Then press on the PRESS AND HOLD TO VIEW SAMPLE button to see if the chart is delivering what you want for the chart.
5. If the chart looks close to what s needed, then continue through the rest of the wizard. If not - cancel, re-label data, and re-highlight cells.
6. On the third screen - you are given options to add titles and labels - as well as to adjust grid lines.
7. On the final dialog - you are asked whether to create as a NEW SHEET, or to create AS OBJECT IN an existing object (spreadsheet). To view the chart full screen - choose AS NEW SHEET. To incorporate the chart into a PowerPoint, Word document, or website - choose AS OBJECT IN - and then right-mouse-click and COPY the chart, and then PASTE it into the other application.
