Computer Lab Tips and Tricks
Save FREQUENTLY to H: Drive
- If one program stops responding, but the rest of the computer is not frozen right-mouse-click on its button on the task bar (at the botton of the screen) and select close.
- If the student is trying to kep the information they are working on, it might work to launch another instance of the program. So, if Microsodt Word has stopped responding, try going into START >PROGRAMS > STUDENT APPLICATIONS > MS Word and start another window of the program. That might be enough to "wake up" the frozen application - so that you can highlight, copy, and paste the data into a new Word document.
- When students need to do REVISIONS - recommend that they save EACH MAJOR CHANGE as a separate filename. For instance FinalPaper1.doc, and then FinalPaper2.doc, and then FinalPaper3.doc. If a change "hangs" on the computer (or a sudent makes a major error), he/she can go to the last "correct" version to continue forward.
