Alliant Energy Foundation donates $50,000 to UW-Rock County and UW-Platteville collaborative engineering initiative
JANESVILLE – Alliant Energy Foundation today announced a $50,000 grant to support the collaboration of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and University of Wisconsin-Rock County to offer a four-year electrical engineering program in Rock County.
The grant is the first in a fundraising campaign lead by Forward Janesville Inc., the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce and the UW-Rock County Foundation to privately raise the funds needed to construct a $600,000 engineering laboratory on the UW-Rock County campus, 2909 Kellogg Ave., Janesville. The facility is expected to be completed by fall 2007.
The Alliant Energy’s grant will go toward the purchase of equipment for the laboratory.
“Having a wide variety of education choices is important in our communities,” says Barb Siehr, vice president-Customer Operations for Alliant Energy. “We are pleased to offer this grant, which will help open doors for many people who wish to pursue an electrical engineering education in Janesville.”
“The grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation will bring us one big step closer to making this bachelor’s degree program a reality for Rock County,” said Joe Stadelman, president of the UW-Rock County Foundation.
“It is our hope that more than $500,000 in monetary and in-kind donations will be presented to the UW-Rock County Foundation to cover the actual construction phase of the project,” said Diane Pillard, interim campus executive officer and dean. “This project is a wonderful example of collaboration between Janesville and Beloit for the welfare of Rock County.”
When the laboratory is complete, it will be donated to the county.
