The Campus:
The UW Colleges is the freshman-sophomore transfer institution within the UW System. UW Colleges function as a unit that comprises thirteen two-year campuses, each of which offers an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor’s degree. The Rock County campus is located in Janesville, a city of 60,000 near the Wisconsin-Illinois border and is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the state. The proximity to the state capitol in Madison is a plus. Currently the campus serves nearly 1000 students in a college environment that provides for small classes and individualized student attention. The campus offers a strong arts program with growing theater and music departments. Responsibilities:
Primary teaching responsibilities lie in a broad range of lower division courses. One-fourth of the position is in Distance Education, teaching International Politics and Comparative Politics online. The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester with an emphasis upon interactive in small classes.
Qualifications:
A PhD in Political Science is required. Preferred area of expertise is in the field of International and/or Comparative Politics, but applicant must have the ability to teach Introduction to American Government. Successful candidate must demonstrate strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning, and show engagement in active scholarship. Experience in distance education is preferred, but not mandatory. The position carries an expectation to participate in shared governance and community service. Applicants who are ABD in Political Science will be considered if the applicant has reasonable expectations of completing requirements for the PhD within six months of the start of the contract period, August 26, 2010.

Appointment: Tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of English. Contract begins August 26, 2010.
Qualifications: MFA or Ph.D. in the field of English with a specialization in Writing required prior to start date.
Responsibilities: Typical teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester to include four sections of writing. Courses will include Composition I and Composition II on a regular basis plus Technical Writing, Creative Writing, and Intermediate Composition as needed. Interest in developing a Writing in the Sciences course, a writing-related learning community, and/or an online technical writing course is plus. Innovative teaching and integrating technology into the classroom is expected. This tenure-track position also requires scholarly or creative activity in the discipline and/or in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Service expectations include assisting with student recruitment, engaging in campus activities, serving on institutional committees, and participating in discipline-specific community service.

The Department of Computer Science, Engineering, Physics and Astronomy (CSEPA) of the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Engineering at the UW-Rock County campus.

Qualifications:
A PhD in engineering or a closely related field by the contract starting date is preferred. ABD candidates will be considered, with degree completion required within one year. Preference will be given to candidates with successful teaching experience in undergraduate education with non-traditional students. Also desirable are interest or experience in collaborative learning, instructional technology, and distance education.
Responsibilities:
The teaching load is 24 contact hours per year with a minimum of three contact hours per semester taught via Distance Education. Courses taught may include Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Graphics, Engineering Economics, Statics, Dynamics, and Strength of Materials. Class schedule will include afternoon and evening courses to fit students' needs. Within the 24 contact hours of instruction per year, options to teach more than three hours via distance education and to participate in interdisciplinary or collaborative instruction may also be available. This tenure-track position requires teaching excellence, continued professional development, institutional and community service, and student consultation and recruitment.

Director of the Library
Position Description
Position Overview
The Director of the Library is responsible for the management of the campus library and reports directly to the Campus Executive Officer/Dean. The position is an academic staff, 12‐month, 83% position. Starting salary is $49,058 with excellent benefits. The Director develops, promotes, maintains and evaluates library services to faculty, staff, a varied student population, and the community. The Director trains, supervises, and evaluates two support staff and several student employees and supports the curriculum through active collaboration with faculty and staff.
Qualifications
An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science and a minimum of two years of relevant experience are required. Experience in an academic setting is preferred.
Administration of the Library
- Within the framework of the campus mission and governance bodies, and in consultation with the Campus Dean, set library policies, goals, and objectives.
- Administer all aspects of library services for the campus.
- Maintain the library as a user-friendly, multi-media learning center. Actively consult with faculty, students, and staff in utilizing library resources and developing programs to serve their educational needs.
- Maintain professional knowledge of library and information science. Communicate new developments and potential opportunities to the Campus Dean and campus community.
- Work closely with the instructional technologist and be aware of developments in informational technology and instructional media and their relationship to the library as a teaching and learning resource.
- Participate in a variety of campus, UW Colleges, regional and statewide committees and represent campus issues, ideas, and concerns as appropriate. Serve as campus delegate to the UW Colleges Library Council. Actively participate in campus and university-wide planning activities.
- Oversee circulation, collection maintenance, service agreements, and all user services.
- In consultation with the Office of Student Services, Business Services, and appropriate governance committees, periodically review policies regarding lending, overdue charges, fees, etc. Ensure appropriate application of Student Services and Business Services policies with respect to the Library.
- Work with the campus IT Network Administrator to update and expand library services.
- Actively participate in Engaging Students in the First Year (ESFY) activities.
Collection Management
- With the advice and active, regular input of faculty and staff, select books, periodicals, audiovisual materials and other information resources to support the campus mission and curriculum.
- Maintain up-to-date holdings, records, and files necessary for access and inventory of library holdings. Collect, evaluate and report data, regarding the library’s collections, in a timely and accurate manner.
Public Services
- Maintain a strong “customer service” image for the library. Develop the library as a “first stop” for information services, which may be delivered on site or electronically.
- Provide reference and information services, including interlibrary loan, to meet the needs of campus clients and the public.
- Provide instruction and assistance to students, faculty, staff and the public in the use
of various information resources. Prepare and disseminate library-related aids for users; make classroom presentations as requested by instructors; stay current with curricular and pedagogical trends/developments, and keep campus informed of new information resources and services.
- Continuously collect, evaluate, and report data regarding public services, and adapt
services to serve changing needs.
Supervision
- Supervise all library staff, and student employees. Develop and provide training in conjunction with other appropriate offices (e.g., Information Technology and Library Support Services).
- Maintain all required personnel records and manage all personnel matters related to the library.
Budget
- Plan the library budget in consultation with the Dean, appropriate campus committees, and the Colleges Library Council.
- Order materials, equipment, and supplies following System, campus, and Library Support Services procedures and within budgetary allocations.
- Seek funding and alternative resources to enhance the library’s ability to provide adequate collections, access to information resources, and services to its clients.
- Administer budgets within state and campus guidelines and allocated amounts. Maintain all library account balances, supplies and equipment, and capital.
Professional / Community Activities
- Participate in local, state, and national library professional organizations and activities, as appropriate.
- Establish goodwill and working relationships with a variety of external groups and organizations for the benefit of the campus.
