Some students have all the fun!
The Learning Support Center (LSC) is an academic support resource designed to assist all UW-Rock students. The LSC Tutorial Services provides individual and group tutorial services in mathematics and writing; help with other subjects may be available on request. In addition, the LSC's TRIO Student Support Services program provides a network of academic services to first generation, low income, physically or learning disabled students, primarily through developmental courses, math and writing tutorials, academic advising and peer mentoring. To inquire about either program, see Mary Schlais in Room 232 of Andrews Hall, or call (608)-758-6513 or (608)-758-6519

Is the Deadline for that report looming? Is that research paper giving you a headache? Are you bogged down in the middle of a draft? Did you come up a page short on that English Essay? Are you suffering from terminal writer's block? Have you finally decided to master the semicolon?
If you've ever experienced these problems,
take heart -- help is on the way! The new Campus Writing Center will open
for business starting Monday, September 17. Staffed by highly qualified
tutors, the Writing Center is designed to provide students with expert,
one-on-one help with their writing.
Where do I find the Writing Center?
The Writing Center is located in the Learning Support Center, Room 231
Andrews Hall.
Who is eligible to use the Writing Center?
Anyone enrolled as a full- or part-time student at UW-Rock may receive
tutorial assistance. This is a FREE service.
Do I need an appointment?
You can reserve a half-hour block of time (or more if needed) by phoning
758-6519. Try to make your appointment at least 24 hours in
advance. You can also drop by the Center during its regular hours
and get immediate help if a tutor is available. Hours are 10 am - 6
pm, Monday-Thursday, and 10 am - 2 pm Friday.
What kind of assistance can I get?
The Center's staff can assist students at all skill levels at any stage
in the writing process. Staff can help students understand an assignment
more clearly, generate and develop ideas for an assignment, explore ways
to organize an assignment, use documentation properly, and master editorial
techniques, grammar and punctuation. The tutors are eager to help students
develop their writing skills; however, they will not proofread students'
work.
Does the Writing Center only help students enrolled in English courses?
Many courses besides English require extensive written assignments, and
professors in all fields demand quality work from their students. The
Writing Center provides assistance for students working on any type of
written assignment in any course, not just English. On behalf of the Learning
Support Center staff, I invite you to visit our new facilities and to
make use of them throughout the school year.
