The Marketing & Communications offices are located in the far corner of the Administrative area of Hyatt Smith Hall, past the Dean’s Office and near the Foundation office. E-mail is often the best way to reach us, but we do have an in-box for each staff member on the reception desk if you need to leave something for us and we have a mailbox in the main mail area.
Carrie Hermanson, Director of Marketing and Communications since fall 2006, oversees media relations, printing, publications, website content and advertising. In addition, she’s involved in community relations activities, special event planning, campus committees and is a part of the Dean’s Council. She serves on the Threat Assessment Group and other administrative task forces and committees. She is a full-time employee and you can reach her at 758-6565 x 350.
Nikki Schoeny, Marketing and Communications Specialist since fall 2008, is helping develop and implement standards and style guides for graphics and communication for the campus to ensure consistency; developing graphics for advertising, publications, presentations and other media; updating the website and kiosk; assisting with special events; taking photographs; and, of course, doing “other duties as assigned.” She’s started a Facebook group for UW-Rock County, updated the look of the kiosks on campus, completed many publication projects and is a great addition to the staff. Contact Nikki at 758-6565 x 340.
Work Study Student
The office typically employs a work-study student 5-10 per week during the fall and spring semesters. This student assists with events, filing, copying, data entry and other projects for the department.
What We Do
Everything from this campus that is printed or posted for the public/students or has the UW-Rock County name or logo on it should go through Marketing and Communications, either for its creation or at least for approval before going out to the public. This doesn’t apply to classroom materials, but get the DMC involved early when planning events or programs so we can help you get the info out to your audiences through these methods and all-student/campus e-mails, the electronic kiosk, whiteboard splashes or other means. We can also help with the sandwich board signs to promote events, balloons, table covers and other special event items and services such as small laminating jobs, temporary signage, nametags and business cards.
Marketing and Communications also handles media relations, which includes fielding calls from reporters, pitching story ideas, coordinating photo shoots, sending news releases, posting events to select web calendars and maintaining relationships with the media.
