(Janesville, Wis) – Members of the public, students, faculty and staff will gather in the University of Wisconsin-Rock County Gary J. Lenox Library on Tuesday, December 6 to celebrate the unveiling of a mural painstakingly developed by Associate Professor of Art Michael Julian.
The unveiling program begins at 12:15 p.m. with a welcome by Campus Administrator Kristin Fillhouer and commentary by Julian and Senior Academic Librarian Kim Cook. “While the mural was not developed around our 50th anniversary year – which we are currently celebrating – the timing couldn’t be any better,” Fillhouer exclaims.
“The design expresses my general devotion to color interaction and pattern making. Beyond these general preoccupations, my foremost concern was that it worked with the space, color, lighting, and structure of the library,” Julian explains. “As far as content goes, I was really thinking about simply communicating something warm, vibrant, and stimulating to the people that use the library. I wanted something that would feel musical and somewhat boisterous in an otherwise quiet space – something exotic, something caffeinated,” Julian concludes.
The unveiling will conclude with celebratory cake and refreshments in the Fireplace Lounge. Members of the media and the greater UW-Rock County community are encouraged to attend.
