(Janesville, Wis.) - The University of Wisconsin-Rock County Chamber Orchestra presents "Music Quickly Composed" on Monday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirk Denmark Theatre on campus. This event will feature John Pickart performing Gabriel Faure's "Elegie" for cello and orchestra, Wolfgang Mozart's Symphony No. 36 (Linz), and other works.
This concert’s theme is that all works presented were composed in a very brief amount of time. For example, Mozart's Symphony No. 36 was composed in only four days. Most of the works on the program are of a similar nature.
On Wednesday, April 26, the UW-Rock County Jazz Band presents "April in Janesville" - also in the Kirk Denmark Theatre. This event will feature music by Freddie Hubbard, Luiz Eca, Vernon Duke, Chick Corea, Sammy Nestico, and other composers and includes a variety of jazz styles. In addition, this concert will feature two numbers that will include guest soloist Steve Carmichael on tenor sax.
Admission is free for both events, but a $2 contribution is suggested. For more information about these events, please contact Associate Professor Jeff Suarez, director of the music program at UW-Rock County, at 608.758.6565 x737. For more information about UW-Rock County, visit rock.uwc.edu.
