Soccer Team History
The UW-Rock Soccer team was formed in 1974 and is one of the oldest soccer programs in the area. The team was coached by Pete Mory. The team played as a varsity sport until the mid- 1980s when it became a club sport and continued on until it became a varsity sport in 1989 and coached by Mike Deitz, a player on the original 1974 team.
Under Mike Deitz the team flourished with its first winning season in 1993 and became a conference powerhouse. Under Deitz the team won many conference and division championships with the high point being a trip to the WJCAA finals in 2000.
In 2003, Grant McNall, a team captain on the 1993 team, was named head coach after many seasons as an assistant. The program is again flourishing with only two losing seasons and deep playoff runs in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. 2005 and 2009 marked a return to the WJCAA finals. The UW-Rock Rattlers did not lose a conference game during the 2008-2009 seasons.
2010 saw the Rattlers become involved in the community. They hosted a low-cost “all skills, no frills” soccer camp and dedicated a game to cancer awareness by playing with specially decorated soccer balls that were auctioned in order to make donation to the American Cancer Association.
