Have you seen the new mural in University of Wisconsin-Rock County’s Gary J. Lenox Library? It was officially unveiled during fall semester 2016…and we need to name it!
Artist and UW-Rock County Associate Professor Michael Julian started the mural in June of 2015 and completed the paining on November 3, 2016. Julian chose a grid of panels because it complemented the architecture of the library – the ceiling tiles, the cinder blocks, the layout of bookshelves, etc. Reverse colors of the final design were used underneath the final coat of paint, giving the painting depth and dimension. The base coat is acrylic, and the final coat is oil.
The last addition to the painting was the white/grey elliptical pop-out on the bottom left panel. Hovering one inch in front of everything else, pushing the implied grid back, given further dimension to the piece.
Entries accepted through midnight on Friday, April 28, 2017.
The winning entry will be selected by a panel comprised of campus faculty, staff and a student representative. The winner will be notified in May 2017 via email and receives a bag of U-Rock swag, a $50 gift card to the campus bookstore and, of course, bragging rights!
