Engineering Degree Planner

What follows is for those new to our program, or those wanting to better understand our configuration.  Current students may wish to go directly to our self-help tools for help in tracking progress.

As a collaborative program, you are a student at both UW-Rock and UW-Platteville when completing your Bachelor of Science degree.  In fact, you’re a student at 2 schools at the same time during most semesters.  This is because UW-Rock offers the general education and pre-engineering courses, while UW-Platteville offers the Electrical and Mechanical major courses.  You only have to travel to the Janesville campus for classes, though, thanks to the state-of-the-art Engineering Center that opened recently.

If you do not already have a Bachelor degree or an Associate degree (not from a Wisconsin technical college), you need to earn the Associate of Arts and Science degree from UW-Rock County.  Work in coordination with UW-Rock’s Student Services office to ensure that your course choices balance engineering prerequisites with Associate degree requirements.  You do not need to complete the Associate degree before starting your engineering major.  In fact, you are encouraged to balance your course choices – so to see if engineering is right for you and to ensure a steady progress.

A conversation with the Engineering Program Director will help you determine how the following issues might affect your degree planning:

• transferred courses
• scheduling flexibility
• personal and professional needs
• financial considerations

Full-time enrollment is not an expectation.  If you want to be a full-time student, we’ll work with you.  However, by offering evening coursework in engineering, we are also geared to help those who work during the day and want to supplement experience with a Bachelor degree – via part-time coursework.  We listen to your needs and account for your availability when scheduling courses.
