Engineering Major Admission Requirements
UW-Platteville's general engineering requirements call for students to pass six core courses to gain formal acceptance into their major. Of these courses, five are common to both majors in our Rock County program:
CHE 165* - Chemistry for Engineers
EGR 105* - Engineering Fundamentals
ENG 101 - English Composition I
MAT 221 - Calculus & Analytic Geometry I (C or better grade)
MAT 222 - Calculus & Analytic Geometry II (C or better grade)
An Electrical Engineering (EE) student must earn a 2.3 Core Grade Point Average (CGPA) in those 5 courses and CPS 216* - Problem Solving and Programming Techniques in C++.
A Mechanical Engineering (ME) student must earn a 2.6 CGPA in those 5 courses and GRA 110* - Engineering Graphics with Computer Aided Drafting.
Once admitted as an EE or ME major to the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science , a student must earn a grade of C or better in all major courses.
It is handy to use a degree planner to determine your progress in completing requirements. After all, the main idea is to successfully complete courses in order to graduate and find a solid career opportunity!
*Other course numbers may qualify; check with advisor for details.
