Application Process
Your first step in joining our program is to apply to UW-Rock County:
If you have an Associate degree (not from a Wisconsin technical college) or a Bachelor degree, then apply to UW-Rock as a “SECOND DEGREE SPECIAL” student
you do not pay a fee or need to submit any transcripts with this option
If you do not already have an appropriate degree, then apply to UW-Rock as a “DEGREE-SEEKING” student
a $35 application fee is typically required, but it may be waived if you previously applied as a “degree-seeking” student to a UW campus
select “UW-Platteville (Electrical or Mechanical) Engineering” as your Major - we will not know you have been admitted or track your progress unless you note this
Contact every high school, college and/or university you have attended and request that they send an official transcript of your academic records
Once everything has been submitted, wait for an official update from the Admissions Office. Notify the Rock Engineering program director when you receive Registration, Placement Testing and/or other “acceptance” information:
Placement tests (in English and Mathematics) may be needed for students who have never attended college – or transfer, special and re-entry students who have not successfully completed a previous university level English or Math course
When you are ready to take UWP Engineering (advanced, major-level) courses, you must apply to UWP. Do this only after you have been admitted to UW-Rock (either as a “special” or “degree-seeking” student), and/or received a “go ahead” from the Rock Engineering program director:
If you are still completing an Associate degree with UW-Rock, apply as a “SPECIAL” student to UWP
You do not pay a fee or need to submit any transcripts with this option
Return the application to the Rock Engineering program director
If you do not already have an appropriate degree, then apply to UW-Rock as a “DEGREE-SEEKING” student
A $35 application fee is required unless you have been enrolled as a “degree-seeking” student at a UW campus previously - to qualify for financial aid, you need to be “degree-seeking” at one or both schools
Contact every high school, college and/or university you have attended and request that they send an official transcript of your academic records
If you have taken courses at another college, and want to know if they might count toward requirements in our program, bring a copy of your transcripts from each school you have attended to the Rock Engineering program director for an assessment – perhaps before you apply. This information will better determine what courses you would still need, and how long it may take you to complete our Bachelor’s degree. The Registration Office will do this officially when you apply as a degree-seeking student, but we recommend that you do it with us first to better determine if this program is right for you.
