Position: The Department of Biological Sciences of the UW Colleges and UW-Rock County invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences or closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the PhD is confirmed by the start of the appointment. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidenced academic and/or instructional background teaching university-level Anatomy & Physiology. Innovative teaching methods, appropriate use of instructional technology, experience teaching a wide variety of courses, and experience in teamwork or working collaboratively will strengthen application. Experience in teaching distance education or hybrid courses is also desired.

Responsibilities: The academic year teaching assignment is 12-14 contact hours per week and includes first and second year biology courses. An Anatomy & Physiology lecture/lab sequence is expected to be a regular assignment for this position. A variety of other lecture and laboratory courses could be assigned, including freshman and sophomore courses in biology, zoology, and genetics. This is a tenure track position and requires excellence in teaching, continued professional development, and institutional and community service.

The Campus: The growing UW-Rock County campus enrolls nearly 1300 students and is located on 50 rolling acres on the southwest side of Wisconsin’s City of Parks, Janesville, and includes a new state-of-the-art Engineering Center, library, classrooms and computer labs. Developmental Skills Specialist-English

TRIO Student Support Services

UW Rock County

Position Summary

This is a 9-month, 40% administrative academic staff position with working title of Developmental Skill Specialist reporting to the Director for TRIO Student Support Services.  This position delivers English instruction and support services to low-income, first generation, and/or students with disabilities through small group and individualized instruction. 

Qualifications

Master’s Degree required—English, Student Personnel or related field.  Familiarity with the operation of developmental education programs, with at least one year’s teaching experience working in a relevant field (e.g. developmental education, teaching English composition) preferred.

Responsibilities

The primary objectives of the Developmental Skills Specialist-English are to ensure that

1)  75% of students will be in good academic standing at the end of the academic year as a result of an individually designed service delivery plan for all participants and specialized monitoring and advising for those on probation (Objective IV of the TRIO grant).

2)  80% of students who enroll in the TRIO program in any given semester will achieve academic success within four semesters as measured by a grade of C or better in the initial degree credit English course completed following program entry (Objective VI of the TRIO grant).

The Developmental Skills Specialist-English provides the following services to meet the objectives

1)  Tutor students enrolled in composition courses (Eng. 098, Eng. 101, Eng. 102) as well as in other courses requiring formal written assignments.

2)  Develop writing workshops and/or study groups based on student need and interest.

3)  Meet regularly with TRIO Advisors to monitor progress of individual students.

4)  Establish and maintain cordial working relationships with English faculty.

5)  Prepare records of student contacts and delivery of support services.

6)  Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director.

Salary

  • Develop math workshops and/or study groups based on students’ needs and interest.
  • Conduct formal and informal needs assessment of students’ mathematical skills.
  • Develop curricular materials and instructional strategies for LEA courses and supplemental materials for all math courses.
  • Meet regularly with TRIO SSS staff to assess needs and monitor progress of individual students.
  • Establish and maintain cordial working relationships with math faculty.
  • Maintain contact with TRIO SSS students enrolled in math courses to offer them academic support.
  • Maintain records of all student contacts and prepare reports on student progress and the delivery of support services.
  • Attend biannual all-staff TRIO SSS meetings.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director.

Retention Specialist/Advisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Retention Specialist/Advisor in Student Services is responsible for collecting and analyzing student enrollment and retention data to use in developing a comprehensive student retention program for UW-Rock County, as well as advising current probation students. This is a fixed-term renewable position, renewable each year for a minimum of 2 years.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidate should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. A Master’s degree related to Education, Psychology, Higher Education or similar field is preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a post-secondary setting
  • Skills related to research, assessment and data collection
  • Knowledge of the financial aid and admissions process
  • Detail oriented
  • Understanding and sensitivity to students’ needs
  • Flexible and open to change
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Integrity, dependability, sound judgment and resourcefulness
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills (including public speaking)
  • Excellent organizational and critical-thinking skills
  • Skilled in the use of office-related computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and other management tools

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collect and analyze recruitment and retention data
  • Create and implement a retention program(s) and early alert system for the campus
  • Research best practices in student retention efforts among colleges and make recommendations for implementation
  • Assist with Peer Mentoring Project
  • Organize retention activities for students
  • Manage probation and suspension correspondence
  • Assist with advising probation students
  • Organize and promote a transfer fair for UW-Rock County students
  • Work with Engaging Students in the First Year  Coordinator to meet student needs
  • Provide related data, reports and information to internal departments and external agencies and government departments.

Women’s Volleyball Coach

The Athletic Department at the University of Wisconsin-Rock County invites applications for a women’s volleyball coach for Fall 2012.

Responsibilities

Applicant must be able to meet the following established qualifications.  Bachelor’s degree.  Preference given to applicants whose skill sets include direct knowledge of technical skill associated with the activity or sport and previous successful coaching experience working with age/gender level at high school, college or club program.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, recruiting experience and knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.  Applicants must be available for practices and all scheduled home/away game times.  Also responsible for equipment and uniform inventory, paperwork for travel, keep statistics and submit them to appropriate associations, and other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
